Summary of Qualifications
To qualify at the GS-07 level, you must meet one of the following criteria: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level in the federal public service. Specialized experience includes: experience that has equipped you with the specific knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience is related to the work of the position and is equivalent to at least the GS-05 level in the federal service. Such experience is usually gained in the IT field or by performing a job where the primary concern is IT solutions. Examples may include troubleshooting issues for customers on an IT helpline; collecting and updating information on collaborative sites; compile data on user needs to identify software solutions; and help implement IT policies or procedures. Experience must demonstrate attention to detail, customer service, oral communication and problem solving.
WHERE
One (1) full year of higher education OR higher academic achievement
Undergraduate or graduate education: degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or a degree that has provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more areas identified above and requiring the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.
Superior academic achievement is defined as the completion of all requirements for a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university and satisfaction of one of the following: In the top third of your class; OR a GPA of 3.0 or higher out of 4.0, as recorded on official transcript, or based on courses taken in the last 2 years of the program; OR a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or more out of 4.0, based on the average of the required courses in the major or the required courses in the major taken during the last 2 years of the program.

To qualify for the GS-8, you must meet one of the following criteria:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level in the federal public service. Specialized experience includes: installing, configuring, upgrading and troubleshooting hardware and software in a network system; analyze common IT equipment failures and design required actions/solutions; administer and manage various work processing, data processing and security programs; provide analytical, technical and administrative support to users; prepare written instructions and provide training on the use of software.
OR candidates may substitute successful completion of one and a half years of progressively higher level graduate study (27 semester hours, 40.5 quarter hours or equivalent) in a field of study directly related to the work of the position to be filled for the required 1 year of specialized experience. Higher education may only be credited when it is clearly directly related to the work of the position to be filled and equips the candidate with the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to successfully perform the duties of the position.
OR applicants may substitute a combination of appropriate specialist experience (as described above) and appropriate graduate education (as described above) that goes beyond the first year of progressive graduate study to meet the requirements qualifying.
To qualify at the GS-09 level, you must meet one of the following criteria: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level in the federal public service. Specialized experience includes: experience that has equipped you with the specific knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience is related to the work of the position and is equivalent to at least the GS-08 level in the federal public service. Such experience demonstrates knowledge of computer requirements and techniques in performing project assignments of multiple related tasks. Examples include installing, configuring, upgrading, and troubleshooting hardware and software components; present formal and informal training and assistance to clients; report, respond to and resolve customer inquiries. Experience must demonstrate attention to detail, customer service, oral communication and problem solving.
WHERE
Master’s or equivalent graduate degree OR (2) two full years of progressively higher level study leading to a master’s or equivalent graduate degree.
Undergraduate or graduate education: degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or a degree that has provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more areas identified above and requiring the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

National service experience (i.e. volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work performed in national service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (eg, professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build essential skills, knowledge and abilities and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly into paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize offers of employment to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the past 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule C, SES non-career, or Presidential Appointee in the Executive branch, you must disclose this information to the Office of Human Resources.
